Biography (Full)

Dave Stroud has been training voices since 1988. With the highest distinction of Level 5 Certification in Speech Level Singing, he teaches vocal development, certifies new instructors, and creates internationally recognized, innovative vocal programming. Dave owns and operates The Voice Studio in San Francisco and is a member of the Education Management Team for Speech Level Singing.

Philosophy
Dave Stroud's greatest gift is his ability to quickly assess any vocalist's strengths and challenges. He constantly looks for opportunities to grow and learn from students, mentors, other vocal professionals, ear nose & throat specialists and music industry executives. Dave's consistent service to vocal and songwriting organizations reflects his long-standing commitment and dedication to the field. His passion is for making vocal development available to as many communities and individuals as possible, creating opportunities around the world for high quality education that transcends musical styles.

Vocal Programming and Lectures
Dave has traveled throughout the United States and Europe to offer master classes, vocal workshops, teacher training and private instruction. These master classes, comprehensive four-hour sessions that teach the fundamentals of sound, voice, and song, have taken place in Austria, Germany, Scotland, England, Canada, and throughout the United States (including New York, Hawaii, California, Georgia, Arizona, Utah, Washington, Iowa, Texas and South Carolina).

Considered an expert in the field, Dave Stroud creates unique curricula and dynamic panel discussions for professional development conferences and organizations dedicated to singing, songwriting, vocal training, and the science of the voice. Clients include the Northern California Songwriter's Association, where Dave develops programming for an annual conference; the Seth Riggs Vocal Camp, for which Dave creates the entire curriculum; and Jazz Camp West. Dave has provided artistic guidance for the Pacific Voice and Speech Foundation's annual Pacific Voice Foundation Conference. He was also responsible for the creation of the Speech Level Singing certification program and lifelong curriculum for teachers.

Dave recently had the honor to serve as guest lecturer on the science of vocal and artistic development for the renowned think tank, Xerox PARC (Palo Alto Research Center) Forum. He has also worked with the GRAMMY In The School program of the Recording Academy, (formerly known as the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) offering vocal training and a panel discussion about the music industry for high school students. At a recent conference for singers based in Utah, Dave curated a music business panel that included celebrated vocalist Kathy Fisher, entertainment attorneys Michael Aczon and Elliot Cahn and Ian Krombie.

Past Clients
In the last fifteen years, Dave has offered vocal development and teacher training at schools and universities around the world, including KUG University in Graz, Austria; The University of the Pacific; Brigham Young University, Hawaii; San Francisco Conservatory of Music; The Jazzschool, Berkeley; Santa Clara University Theatre Department; South Plains College; Stanford University; Madeline Eastman's The Voice Shop, a three-day intensive for jazz singers; and the Donna Reed Performing Arts Festival.

Working with as many as one hundred singers per week, Dave Stroud has been a vocal consultant for a variety of professional productions, including RENT, Miss Saigon, 42nd St., Showboat and COLE! He has privately trained renowned singers such as Terry Ellis, (En Vogue) Rosie Gaines, (Prince's NPG) Tony Lindsay, (lead singer with Santana) Matt Scannell and Dale Tracy (Phantom of the Opera, Hamburg, Germany).

Building a Community of Vocal Professionals
Dave Stroud's Los Angeles studio features an Internet broadcasting suite, which he uses for streaming lessons, master classes, coaching and live performances. This state-of the-art technology allows Dave to offer professional development to vocalists around the world. For ten years, Dave's studio has also hosted an annual event where emerging vocalists have an opportunity to both audition for industry professionals and perform with outstanding studio musicians.

Past ventures include publishing the vocal magazine, Connecting Voices, in circulation since 1994. Similar to Keyboard Magazine, this periodical designed exclusively for vocalists is currently distributed as an Internet magazine. And in 1997, Dave started an independent record label, with one song listed on the Gavin Top 40 Report.

Affiliations
Dave is a member of the San Francisco Arts Commission, serves on the Board of the West Coast Songwriters Association (WCSA); is a current Board Member and past Executive Director of Speech Level Singing International, Inc.; and a member of the Board of Advisors, Commercial Music Department of South Plains College.
