Break      |
  |
Any abrupt or sudden shift in tone production that occurs when excessive air overcomes the ability of the vocal cords to stay adducted between registers.
Breaks most often occur from chest to falsetto, and chest to head. Sometimes breaks are used for style (such as in yodeling), but most often happen unintentionally. The solution for erasing the break is to develop a "mix" so that no sudden shift occurs.
