We do this in two separate ways. First, by teaching about "Speech Level Singing" to students and teachers in the San Francisco bay area. From 85 to 100 students are taught directly from the studio on a weekly basis. Ten to twelve hours a day are spent doing this.
The second way we offer education opportunities is through Outreach. Even though the local teaching is the primary function of DSVS, the outreach is extremely important to us. It gives us a means of spreading the knowledge of the technique to students and teacher who may not have access to it otherwise.
At the present time we have from 2 to 4 outreaches a month. Each outreach features a master class and private lessons. The "Master class" is usually four hours and consists of a number of different components. Its first goal is to explain what "Speech Level Singing" is about and how it pertains to you. This is done in the first part of the class through an interactive type forum.
The second part is the application aspect of the method. Willing volunteers are taught in front of the class. This allows both the person being taught and the audience to see how effective the "Speech Level Singing" technique really works. An immediate difference is heard.
